Zepa Records Djs a.k.a Mansai & Chris 'Daddy' Lai.
Mansai is an artist who wears multiple hats. He performs as a disc jockey, composes as a music producer, and serves as a co-founder of an independent record label Zepa Records. Through his eclectic selection in funk, soul, disco, and jazz for his DJ sets, he creates a unique listening experience for his new listeners and gather like-minded artists. He released a mix-CD named “Diggin’ Canto Grooves” under Zepa Records in 2018, the project explores the soulful and groovy side of Canto-pop. This was released in physical format and distributed overseas, in which all copies were sold out in one day through overseas channels. Most recently, Mansai performed in an art and music festival Shi Fu Miz Autumn Edition 2019, with Jazzanova and Marcellus Pittman headlining.
Mansai made his debut online appearance in 2018 with a beat tape and followed up with 5 mixes within the span of 3 months. Subsequently, he founded Zepa Records with a partner to provide an all-inclusive platform for artists to collaborate and to cultivate a culture of music appreciation in late 2018. His philosophy shares resemblance with DJ Muro Japan, aka. King of Diggin’, who spends excessive hours in discovering music to share it with his audience through his mixtapes and DJ sets.
Mansai is currently producing and recording an LP for PORA, a duo under Zepa Records. The project it is expected to be released in mid 2020.
Chris ‘Daddy’ Lai is the product of modern day eclecticism: he is a songwriter, producer, co-founder of Zepa Records, film composer and disc jockey. In all his pursuits, he seamlessly blends genres to craft a unique voice that is both vital and provocative in today’s time.
As a DJ, Christopher has performed at various leading radio stations, venues and festivals including Fauve Radio, Hong Kong Community Radio, Potato Head, the Art of the Wild Festival and the Shi Fu Miz Autumn Edition in 2019. Dissatisfied with the state of music in Asia, he co-founded Zepa Records in late 2018 to cultivate visual and musical talent across the Asia pacific region, forming a collaborative hub of like-minded creators.
As a composer and lead guitarist, he contributed his efforts to the indie jazz folk band, Sun Eskimos, and co-wrote their debut EP released under Untitled Records Asia. The EP's single, "A Little Little", topped Hong Kong radio charts. With the Sun Eskimos, he has performed at venues such as Clockenflap, the Fringe Club, and the RTHK 903 Music Festival in Hong Kong. Christopher is also a dedicated film composer and has scored a number of award winning short films directed by Jeremy Hung and Lam Hei-chun (one of the Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival winners).
At the moment, he is producing and recording the debut LP of the duo, PORA, which is due for release under Zepa Records in 2020.
